Embellish Magazine: Color Trends Challenge - Stripes

I did it! I got $62 tickets to Cirque du Soleil! From $140, down to $62! :) Thanks Kim! That Groupon discount code was great! Hubby and I are watching tomorrow. We've always wanted to see them, but never had the time to. So I'm looking forward to spending the day in the city with my husband.


I saw the Embellish Magazine Color Trends Challenge over at their blog and just loved the DT sample cards. I wanted in on all of the fun. I've been making a lot over the weekend. I was hoping that my Papertrey Ink order would arrive by today, but it hasn't. Darn. Oh well. 


Anyway, here's the lovely color combination for the challenge. Embellish Magazine: Color Trends Challenge - Stripes.

Here's my sample for this challenge. I wanted to combine some CAS elements and shabby chic into my card. I don't know if you can see it...but here it is. :) 

I stamped some flowers from Celebrating You (The Craft's Meow) up top. I didn't color it to keep it simple and clean. Then I stamped some stripes on the bottom part of the panel using Background Basics: Retro from Papertrey Ink. I'm loving the effect of the small, clean lines that background stamp produced. 

I used Rescue Remedies from Waltzingmouse Stamps for the label. Then I added the flower, button and ribbon for my embellishments. 

Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge 63

Welcome to the weekend everyone! My husband and I have been meaning to see Zarkana by Cirque du soleil. I received a coupon from Groupon just last week for a 40% discount for 8 tickets. I'm not familiar with Groupon, and am actually quite skeptical about it. Has anyone ever used it before? Is it real? Or is it just a scam? It would be great if it were real, then I could score cheaper tickets. Let me know ok? :)


Well then, onto our challenge shall we? Welcome to Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge 63. Our sketch this week is from Anya. It's a wonderful, wonderful sketch. And you'll come to find that the Mischief Makers have used a number of variations for this sketch. I'm sure you'll enjoy this one! 

This sketch was begging for me to use Victorian Frippery. I saw this color combination from a magazine I was reading the other night and I wanted to try it out. I was a little afraid to use yellow and red on the same card. But I must admit, that adding the pink and vintage cream to the combination balanced things out. 

I've kept things simple, and just stamped out a label from Very Vintage Labels No. 10. I topped it off with this gorgeous sentiment from Say It Loud. I didn't go all out with my layering this time. I wanted to try to keep it simple. I can't get over how beautiful that border stamp from Victorian Frippery is. It's my absolute favorite border stamp, as you already know! :)

The Craft's Meow September Card Sketch Challenge

Hi everyone! I've been a bit busy making some cards today. I was off from work because I had to go to my weekly physical therapy sessions for my back. I'm glad to say that I'm feeling a bit better and hopefully will be completely well in two weeks time. I had a lot of time today to look at the blogs of my favorite designers. I always want to ink up right after I peruse through my fave blogs. 


One of the cards I made today was for The Craft's Meow September Card Sketch Challenge. The sketch for September is from Debbie Pamment. Here it is...

It has a lot of layering...which I love. I didn't completely follow the sketch, but I tried to keep well within its boundaries. Here's my submission for this month's TCM Card Sketch Challenge. 

I was looking through my 2012 Ikea catalog and the front page had this wonderful color combination. I love anything light blue, brown and cream combined. I had the colors stuck in my head all day long and made other cards with the same colors. lol! It's a good thing I don't have to post them all tonight. :)

I was also playing around with my Adobe Photoshop. I like to edit my pictures so that they come out more crisp. What do you think? Do you likey? :) I want to see what you make with this sketch. So go get inky and join us at The Craft's Meow Blog! See you there!

The Craft's Meow September Release Blog Hop

Welcome to my second post for the day. Scroll down for CASE Study Challenge 55. We have a new muse this month! :)


Yay! It's finally time for The Craft's Meow Blog Hop! How did you like the September stamp sets? I had a lot of fun working with both of them. I loved Fun{tache}tic by Nina Bracket and thought that H'owl'oween by Jenny Suchin is absolutely cute!

Since Halloween is just around the corner...I wanted to make another Halloween card. I stamped some images from H'owl'oween, colored and die cut them. I also added the cute bats and stars to the background panel. I was trying to go for a tomb stone look with the label stamp...with my cute little owl perched atop it...my hubby said it didn't look like a tomb stone though...grrr was my response. Haha! :)

I'm not one to make Halloween cards. I think I haven't made a lot of them since I started card making...but I think I'll be doing that from now on. These stamps are so much fun to work with!

The Craft's Meow September Release - Day 2

Hello and welcome to Day 2 of The Craft's Meow September Release! I hope you enjoyed yesterday's sneak peaks while perusing through all of the design team member's cards. Today's sneak peaks are for the stamp set Fun{tache}tic. This set is soooo vintage and cute!


I stamped my background panel with several sentiment stamps from the set. I just love the old world feel of the text. I also stamped an image from Life is a Carnival on the text background before adding the mustache that I had stamped, cut and colored in. 

I added a border stamp from the Telegram stamp set for added color, as well as this cute label from Timeless Tags. I hope you like my card for today! Don't forget to check out the other TCM design team members. They have a lot of great sneak peaks for you too! :)

On a very happy note, my mom is doing well. My sisters informed me that she's talking more, and she smiles and laughs more often now. It's such a comfort to hear that. My mom's always been a strong and independent woman, it's really hard for all of us to see her this way. Hopefully she goes back to normal faster than what the doctors have predicted. :) Enjoy the rest of your week! 

The Craft's Meow September Release - Day 1

Welcome to Day 1 of The Craft's Meow September release. TCM has two new stamp sets for the month of September, and first up is Happy H'owl'oween. I cannot begin to tell you all how cute this stamp set is. It's also absolutely perfect since Halloween is just around the corner.


I wanted to combine cutesy and vintage for my sample today. So I chose some warm colors and inked EVERYTHING! lol! :) I made my own background patterned papers and stamped some of the images from the Happy H'owl'oween stamp set in there. I also stamped the fence several times, colored it in and cut it. I thought the eye balls were just so cute so I made it the focal point of the card. 

I've also been practicing on how to use my zigzag scissors to cut straight. Does that make sense? hehe! I think I'm getting there. I really love how this card turned out. I hope you like it too and that it gives you just the right tickle. :)

Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge 62

Wow! I don't know about you, but all the warnings about the imminent hurricane is just scaring me all the more! We live on the North shore of Long Island, NY and we don't usually get hit hard by hurricanes. I really hope it holds true this time, and that everyone on the East Coast is ready for Irene. 


So before the lights go out (if they do), I wanted to share my WMSC 62 with all of you. This week's sketch is a bit tricky. I made two projects for it. One is a cutesy tag, and the other one is a card. Here's the sketch...

Here's my first submission. I tried to stay true to the sketch and made a tag for it. I wanted to use my L'il Buddies stamp set. I've been wanting that adorable sheep ever since I saw it. I also used Bitty Banners on the side. I went outside my style for this one, just to try it. I hope you'll enjoy it just that same. :)

I die cut the tag and made another one using a polka dotted patterned paper. I trimmed the sides of the patterned paper so that it would fall just inside the "stitches" of the tag. 

Here's my second submission for this sketch. This time around, I tried to make a card using the sketch.

I placed the sketch on it's side. And used some Bitty Banners once more. One of the newest sets I just acquired is Back in the Saddle. I've always wanted to use it but was afraid that I couldn't incorporate it into my style. I've loved this set ever since I saw Sarah Martina Parker use it. I used it on my sentiment as well as a background for the tag. 

I also stamped a doily from Dainty Doilies - Large Set on the upper left and lower right side of the background panel. I used tea dye ink on most of the edges of the panels to give it a more "cowboy" feel. There's something wrong with the settings of my camera. I haven't been getting clear shots lately. Hopefully, I can figure out how to fix it. :)
